UPPER EAST: Cedar Beach on the Long Island Sound

Over the weekend I went to Cedar Beach on Long Island near Port Jefferson, NY to put my kayak in for the first paddle of the season. I frequent this beach more than any other on LI and I like to kayak around the harbor in between the docked boats. One of my favorite things about the North Shore is how different it is from the South Shore – the beaches are rocky, there are cliffs, and the water is very clear and usually relatively calm.

CENTRAL EAST: West Virginia Hills

Last week I was shooting in Charleston, WV for work, but had some time to wander around, enjoy the spring weather and go on a couple short hikes. I drove down the Route 60 National Scenic Midland Trail that follows the Kanawha River up to Hawk’s Nest State Park, and ventured into both Coonskin Park and Little Creek Park in Charleston. My favorite thing about West Virginia is how the mountains and rivers are part of the people and really are a way of life.
